To participate in the Queensland Community Pharmacy Hormonal Contraception Pilot, community pharmacists are required to successfully complete additional education and training through an accredited education provider. Pharmacists who have successfully completed the full clinical training component of the required training for the Queensland Community Pharmacy Scope of Practice Pilot (the James Cook University Extended community practice for pharmacists course) are not required to complete any additional training. They must, however, still register to participate in the Queensland Community Pharmacy Hormonal Contraception Pilot.

Upon satisfactory fulfilment of the program requirements, including pre-learning modules, interactive online workshop session, the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) and a written assessment, participants will then be issued with a certification of completion.

For pharmacists who have completed or are currently enrolled in the JCU course, clinical content relevant to prescribing hormonal contraception forms part of the course.
Once the course has successfully been completed in its entirety, pharmacists will be authorised to participate in the Pilot.
