How can pharmacy assistants get involved?

Pharmacy assistants, technicians, and dispensary assistants are a vital part of the pharmacy team and pharmacists participating in the pilot will rely heavily on you.

Throughout the pilot you will be critical in identifying potential patients that your trained pharmacist may be able to treat.

Just some examples of how you will be able to support the success of the pilot are:

  • Discussing the new services available to your patients, and referring patients to your pharmacist where appropriate (using the same process as Ask Assess Advise),
  • Assisting in gaining patient consent for the service which includes clinical and financial consent,
  • Discussing and handling payment for the service, and
  • Managing patient bookings through the pilot software.

The Australasian College of Pharmacy in partnership with the Guild has also developed a bespoke course for pharmacy assistants working in pilot pharmacies called: Queensland Community Pharmacy Scope of Practice Pilot Training for Pharmacy Assistants Course.
