World Pharmacists Day
This year, on World Pharmacists Day 2024, Australia comes together to thank and celebrate the wonderful work of pharmacists here, and all over the world.
World Pharmacists Day is on Wednesday, 25 September and it’s an annual opportunity to call out the great work pharmacists do every day.
There are about 37,000 pharmacists across nearly 6,000 community pharmacies in Australia.
Across our cities and towns, in the outback and by the beach, pharmacists are stepping up to meet healthcare needs, providing many more services than ever before.
As scope of practice initiatives are announced and roll out in every state and territory, pharmacists are there, willing to take on more.
Patients trust them to help take care of their health, provide advice and support for medicines management and much, much more.
On World Pharmacists Day, we want to thank all pharmacists and let them know they are appreciated.
We also want patients know that as their trust for pharmacists grows, so is pharmacists’ ability to provide more of the healthcare they need.

Celebrating pharmacists on World Pharmacists Day, 25 September 2024
2024 has been a milestone year for pharmacists, making World Pharmacists Day the perfect opportunity to celebrate their incredible achievements. As 25 September approaches, let’s acknowledge the hard work of our local community pharmacists.
World Pharmacists Day recognises the important role pharmacists play in meeting healthcare needs worldwide. This year, we are highlighting how community pharmacists are stepping up—through new services and initiatives—to meet the evolving needs of Australian healthcare.
Pharmacists are doing more for their patients than ever before, offering treatment for an increased range of everyday health conditions. Providing patients with more convenient and more cost-effective primary healthcare.
Pharmacists in every state and territory can now, or will soon be able to, re-supply prescription oral contraceptives and treat uncomplicated urinary tract infections. These services are game changers for women, significantly reducing the time and hassle of accessing essential healthcare.
This 25 September, join in the celebrations. Visit your local community pharmacy, grab a photo with your pharmacist and celebrate their service using the hashtag #WPD2024!
