Order of Australia recipients congratulated

Five pharmacists have been honoured in this year’s Australia Day Order of Australia Awards.

Five pharmacists have been honoured in this year’s Australia Day Order of Australia Awards.

They are:

  • Professor William Neil Charman was awarded the Officer (AO) in the General Division of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to tertiary education, particularly to the pharmaceutical sciences, and to professional organisations.
  • Colonel William James Kelly (Retd) also has been made a Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia for his significant service to pharmacy through a range of roles.
  • Dr Peter Raymond Carroll has been made a Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia for significant service to pharmacy education, and to community health
  • Mrs Judith Ann Ingham was awarded Medal (OAM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia for service to the community, and to pharmacy.
  • Mr Rodney John Whyte was awarded the Medal (OAM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia for service to pharmacy, to professional societies, and to the community.

The National President of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, George Tambassis, congratulated the recipients on their honours.

“These people have done magnificent work for the pharmacy profession and for their communities,” he said.

“They are great ambassadors for the pharmacy profession which has been so tested over the past 12 months.

“Their examples of leadership and achievement are an inspiration for all pharmacists.”

Mr Tambassis said pharmacists continued to be highly represented on the Order of Australia lists.

“This reflects the great work pharmacists are doing across this country for their patients and their communities,” he said.

“It also reflects the trust and high regard in which they are held by those patients and communities.”
