Capital Chemist Kingston in the ACT has won the 2020 Australian Small Business Champion Awards Pharmacy Category.
The award was presented during a ceremony at the International Convention Centre in Sydney on Saturday. The ceremony was postponed last year because of COVID-19.
Managing partner of the pharmacy Sandra Ferrington said she was grateful and humbled to receive the award on behalf of her team.
“It’s very rewarding to receive acknowledgement of the work that goes into maintaining small businesses such as community pharmacies,” she said.
The pharmacy at Kingston has grown significantly in the past two years following its relocation to new premises in Green Square.
It now provides state-of-the-art dispensary technology with three consult rooms.
“We have created a health hub, with health initiatives in many areas, including sleep apnoea, COPD and lung function checks, audiometry and pre-employment medical checks in partnership with workforce health assessors.
““We work hard to deliver quality healthcare to our community, always looking for ways to better meet healthcare needs. Thank you to all our team members who are essential to the success of a small business and to our fabulous customers.”
Ms Ferrington said 2020 was a challenging year for many small businesses including community pharmacy.
“We had to adapt to ensure the safety of our staff and customers whilst meeting their healthcare needs.
“At Capital Chemist Kingston we are looking forward to continuing to be an integral part of the healthcare of our community for many years to come.”
The awards ceremony was also attended by special guest and current Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman, Kate Carnell who is a fellow pharmacist.
This is the first time that a pharmacy in Canberra has received this award.
