The International Pharmacy Federation (FIP) has announced that after two years of online-only events, the 80th World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences will be held in Seville, Spain, from 18 to 22 September 2022.
FIP says the pharmaceutical profession’s dedication to serving communities during the COVID-19 pandemic has proven that pharmacists and pharmacies are integral to a well-functioning healthcare system and the profession has advanced at an unprecedented rate, expanding the scope of its activities to provide more services.
However, COVID has also uncovered vulnerabilities in the healthcare workforce, weaknesses in health systems, and inequities in access to medicines and vaccines, and it has underlined the importance of working together to find solutions to increasingly global problems.
In addition, the burden of dealing with the pandemic has pushed the world off course in reaching the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The overarching theme of FIP’s 80th world congress has, therefore, been revised and is now Pharmacy united in the recovering of healthcare. In addition to plenary sessions, under this theme, presentations are offered under three tracks:
- “Learnings for future preparedness”
- “Science and evidence supporting the response to COVID-19”
- “Dealing with new and extraordinary ethical challenges”
The event will be hosted by FIP and the General Pharmaceutical Council of Spain.
