The Theme
The theme for this year’s World Pharmacists Day has been unveiled ahead of the official date of 25th of September.
The message is “Pharmacy strengthening health systems” and the campaign’s purpose according to organisers is to “increase awareness of pharmacists as an intelligent solution” in meeting future health needs.
During COVID, pharmacists around the world proved invaluable in terms of availability and providing the necessary infrastructure for COVID testing, administering vaccinations and in-patient care.
In the United States alone, pharmacists performed 350 million clinical interventions during the pandemic.
In Australia pharmacists administered 9 million vaccinations and the legacy from that work is the trials of increased scope of practice with states and territories exemplars of the theme of treating pharmacists as “intelligent solutions” to our challenges in primary healthcare.
How you can get involved
A week out from World Pharmacists Day, the Guild will send out to all members promotional material to increase awareness of the day.
This will be in the form of a digital tool kit which will include social media tiles for pharmacists to promote through their social media channels such as Facebook and Instagram.
There will also be traditional promotional material such as files for banners and posters which can be printed out and used to display in pharmacies.
The purpose of this material is to motivate the public to “ask your pharmacist” about services they provide beyond the dispensing of medicine.
It’s a great opportunity for the public to learn more about pharmacists working to their full scope and find out more about the scope of practice pilots such as the one being rolled out in Far North Queensland.
Videos will also be produced, aimed at decision makers and stakeholders to remind them of the greater roles pharmacists should play in primary healthcare.
Expect to hear more from the Guild about World Pharmacists Day as we get closer to September 25.
