Don’t miss the chance to experience a two-day pharmacy event filled with educational content, workshops, an exciting social agenda and the opportunity to browse a trade exhibition featuring over 70 stalls!

Pharmacy Connect, one of the premier events in the pharmacy industry, is set to take place from 5-7 September at the Hyatt Regency in Sydney this year.

Bringing together pharmacy professionals, industry leaders, and healthcare experts from across Australia, this conference is one of the first following significant reforms in community pharmacy.

Whether you're a seasoned pharmacist or just starting out in the field, Pharmacy Connect 2024 offers something for everyone.

See below some of the highlights that are happening during this 2-day event!

Thursday, 5th September, the harm minimisation workshop features a highly topical session titled "Vaping – are Australians going up in smoke?" Vaping products will move from a Schedule 4 classification, requiring a doctor’s prescription, to Schedule 3, making them available exclusively through pharmacies. This shift has ignited significant debate within the pharmacy community, with many pharmacists advocating for a return to the stricter Schedule 4 classification due to health concerns.

Adding to the conversation is the provocative debate “All alcohol consumed in Australia should require a doctor’s prescription”. This juxtaposition highlights a fascinating discrepancy: while vaping products are under scrutiny and tighter regulation is sought, alcohol—despite its well-documented health risks—remains widely accepted and easily accessible. This contrast underscores the complexities and cultural perceptions surrounding substance regulation in Australia, sparking important discussions about public health and the role of pharmacies in managing these products.

Friday, 6th September, kicks off with an exclusive Guild Member Only Breakfast. This event offers members not only a nutritious start to their day but also the opportunity to receive confidential updates on key issues impacting community pharmacy.

The day follows with an Industry Update highlighting key issues impacting community pharmacy. This session is a must-attend to learn what you need to know to ensure you and your pharmacy can adapt to deal with the new pharmacy landscape.

As uncomplicated UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) consultations become the new norm in community pharmacy, the presentation “Breaking down the UTI consult” helps provide an understanding of everything you need to know. From the different types of UTI’s, the symptoms, causes and management of symptoms, this session will give you the confidence to identify UTI’s and help your patients.

For pharmacists ready to take the next step in their pharmacy career, look no further than the ‘Buying and selling a pharmacy today’ session. Drilling down on the pros and cons of buying, the session will address all aspects of the sales process to ensure that you are well-equipped to make informed decisions.

The day concludes with a bang as the Cocktail Party offers the perfect chance to unwind after a day of learning. Enjoy a lively evening on the dance floor, indulge in a delicious buffet dinner and drinks, and network with fellow industry professionals. You can also join in the celebration as the Pharmacy Guild of Australia/Maxigesic Pharmacy Assistant of the Year national winner is announced. It's the ideal way to relax, connect, and have fun!

For those ready to keep going, Saturday 7th is a day of Full Scope. Explore the full scope of pharmacy practice through three insightful sessions. Learn about the transition to the new integrated 5-year Doctor of Pharmacy program, the impact of full scope practice on community health, and the successes of the Queensland pilot. These sessions will showcase how pharmacists are working to their full scope and enhancing patient care across Australia.
