The Guild congratulated the Queensland Liberal National Party on winning government and the ACT Labor Green Coalition on holding office in their respective October elections.
The results in both jurisdictions, were a win for community pharmacies doing more for patients.
Access to healthcare was an issue during both campaigns and the Guild continued to advocate for the important role community pharmacy plays in providing frontline treatment for everyday health conditions.
In Queensland the Crisafulli Government has committed to making the current scope of practice pilot permanent practice and the ACT Government will expand Canberra community pharmacy’s services to all but mirror the NSW pilot.
The Queensland Branch worked closely with the Crisafulli Government in Opposition and Branch President Chris Owen said he was “looking forward to continuing the constructive relationship we have built.”
A focus for the new Queensland government is to improve access to GPs and reduce the impact on emergency departments.
“More options for front-line health services to patients will reduce pressure on our hospital emergency departments,” Mr Owen said.
