The Australian healthcare landscape is rapidly evolving, presenting both challenges and opportunities for community pharmacy. To adapt to these changes and continue its mission of supporting members and their patients, the Guild is in the process of developing Towards 2035, a new strategic plan.
This strategic plan builds on the successes of the current Strategic Plan, which guided responses to the global pandemic, helped achieve cheaper medicines for all Australians, and preserved the community pharmacy model. Now, as patients' needs grow and preferences shift, Towards 2035 will help the Guild better serve its members, embrace new opportunities, use resources effectively, clarify priorities, and align efforts across the organisation to support long-term goals.
More than just a roadmap, this plan represents a shared path forward, designed to strengthen community pharmacy and ensure the Guild is well-positioned to empower its members to thrive in a rapidly evolving industry.
The Guild is committed to a transparent and interactive process leading up to the plan's launch in June 2025. Consultations will run from November 2024 to May 2025 and include two key member surveys and a series of focused workshops with Consultation Committees in each state and territory. These committees, made up of Guild Branch Committee members and Guild members, are an important building block of the project.
The input of Guild members is essential to the formation of this plan. Members' thoughts, ideas, and visions will guide the Guild's direction, ensuring the strategy aligns with the needs of members and the communities they serve. By actively seeking member contributions, the Guild will create a plan that reflects the collective voice of community pharmacy.
Workshops and consultations will also involve key Guild stakeholders, including Guild staff who will ultimately be tasked with delivering on this vision. By aligning efforts across the organisation, Towards 2035 ensures the Guild remains a driving force for positive change in community pharmacy.
