New hiring incentives for pharmacy

15 January 2025

Exciting news for employers and apprentices! IR30116 Certificate III in Community Pharmacy, SIR40116 Certificate IV in Community Pharmacy and SIR40216 Certificate IV in Community Pharmacy Dispensary have been added to the Australian Apprenticeships Priority List, allowing employers to apply for access to various incentives and subsidies.

The inclusion of the three traineeships on the Australian Apprenticeships Priority List provides a pathway for pharmacy assistants to gain hands-on experience while earning a nationally recognised qualification. This enhances their skills, employability, and help meet the growing need for skilled pharmacy professionals.

Key incentives and support

  • Priority hiring incentive: Employers hiring apprentices in priority occupations may receive up to $5000 in the first year, paid in two instalments: $2000 at six months and $3000 at twelve months for full-time apprentices, or $1000 at six months and $1500 at twelve months for part-time apprentices.
  • Priority wage subsidy: Financial support includes 10% of apprentices' wages for the first 24 months (up to $1500 per quarter) and 5% for the third 12-month period (up to $750 per quarter).
