More than just a display, the space captured the profession’s momentum around Scope of Practice reform, creating a setting for meaningful conversations on clinical governance, infrastructure, and patient-directed care.
The immersive installation gave pharmacists a hands-on look at what a fully equipped, future-ready consult room could look like. It offered the opportunity to explore the practicalities of service provision and interact with pharmacists currently undertaking, or who have completed, full-scope training. For many, it prompted valuable reflection on how their own consult room environments could evolve to support more clinical services.
A key takeaway for delegates was understanding the types of equipment required to support consultations under an expanded scope of practice. While the size and layout of consult rooms will always depend on a pharmacy’s physical footprint, they must be built with functionality and clinical needs in mind.
As an added bonus, three Litman Classic II Stethoscopes—an essential tool for pharmacists in prescribing training—were given away at the stand, thanks to Team Medical Australia, a partner of Gold Cross. The competition was popular with attendees and underscored the growing role of clinical equipment in community pharmacy practice. The engagement from Gold Cross and Team Medical Australia was welcomed by Guild members, especially with ongoing member discounts available to support consult room upgrades.
The design of the display was informed by the Guild’s recently developed consult room guidance resources, which help member pharmacies navigate the many factors involved in building or enhancing consultation spaces. The tiered resources are flexible and practical—supporting pharmacists whether they are improving an existing room, expanding their service offering, or planning a longer-term investment to future-proof their business.
Thank you to all who visited the stand, stepped inside the consult room, and joined the conversation. Your passion and engagement are essential as we continue working towards a future where pharmacists are empowered to practise to their full scope—delivering better health outcomes for all Australians.
