You know you have good mental health when you can cope with the stressors of your daily life, participate in relationships with friends and family, contribute to the community, and work towards your goals. We can all benefit from looking after our own mental health and the mental health of people in our communities!
Studying pharmacy can be challenging. With the start of a new semester underway and the days shorter and colder, it is easy to feel a little depleted. Perform a quick mental health checkup by asking yourself these questions:
- How am I feeling today?
- What's been worrying me lately?
- Am I providing my body with its basic needs?
- What am I doing to bring myself joy?
- Who do I have in my corner?
Some Guild resources you can take advantage of are the Guild Dispensary Podcast episodes on Managing Stress in Pharmacy and Creating Mentally Healthy Pharmacies. If you work in a Guild member pharmacy, you also have access to an Employee Assistance Program that can provide you with counselling support. If you are able to attend the Pharmacy Connect Student Summit on 6 September 2024, you may also be interested in Dr. Zac Seidler’s keynote address titled ‘From Isolation to Inclusion: Tackling the Age of Loneliness’.
The Guild is also a proud supporter of the Pharmacists’ Support Service (PSS). This service is dedicated to the wellbeing of Australian pharmacists, interns and students. For more information on their mental health resources, call 1300 244 910 or visit the PSS website.
As pharmacy students, you’ve embarked on a challenging and rewarding journey and have already demonstrated incredible dedication and resilience. Remember, every step you take brings you closer to making a real difference in people’s lives. Trust in your abilities, lean on your support networks, and keep pushing forward. You've got this! Your future in pharmacy is bright, and you are more capable than you realise.
