The Guild

Hey there, future pharmacists!

It’s natural to feel a mix of excitement and nerves when making the leap from being a pharmacy student.

To alleviate some of those nerves, we wanted to share some interesting parts of the College Intern Training Program (ITP) you might not know about…

  1. It’s the same Guild Intern Training Program, just rebranded!

Just like Facebook changed to Meta and Twitter changed to X, the Guild Intern Training Program changed to the College in December 2023.Other than the name change to the College Intern Training Program, you can
expect the same Intern Training Program as before...
    • The same supportive clinical tutors
    • The same engaging clinical content
    • The same self-paced and flexible program
    • The same access to industry events
  2. You can find an intern position on the College ITP website

We get it, finding an intern position can be challenging and time consuming.

To help interns find a position prior to commencing the ITP course, there are a huge range of intern vacancies published on the ITP website!

That’s right, you can search through positions Australia-wide and easily apply to the advertising employer.

It’s not a requirement that you have an intern position when you submit your enrolment for the College Intern Training Program, but you do need a position before you can commence the course. Hopefully, having access to the vacancies can help you tick off one critical task prior to commencing the ITP
    course.
  3. You are automatically a College member

When you enrol in the College Intern Training Program, you are a College member.

This means that you get access to a range of member benefits. One of those member benefits includes access to the College’s Learning Management System (LMS), featuring over 400 professional development modules covering clinical and business topics.

Access to the College’s LMS will assist you in meeting your yearly CPD requirements including developing a CPD Learning Plan and attaining 40 CPD credits during your intern year. Better yet, you will undertake the Intern Training Program and manage your CPD all in one easy-to-use LMS.

Plus, when you complete your ITP, you can remain as part of the College community with Early Career Pharmacist membership.
  4. You can start your full scope of practice journey while you’re an intern

When you join the College ITP, you’re not just signing up for a training program you’re starting your journey to practice as a full scope pharmacist.

College Interns have access to the Uncomplicated Cystitis Training for FREE. Completing this education will help you to support women’s health and provide necessary treatment for uncomplicated urinary tract infections in eligible women – in line with the state and territory legislation where you practice.

Undertaking this training is your first step on the full scope of practice journey.
  5. You can be nominated for Intern of the Year

Not only can you get the satisfaction of completing your Intern Training Program and transitioning to general registration, but you could also be awarded College Intern of the Year—imagine the selfies with the award!

Each year, interns undertaking the College ITP can be nominated by their employer, preceptor, colleague or one of our clinical tutors.

The best part, the winner will be presented the award during the Opening Plenary Session at the APP Conference and get complimentary registration to the Conference, amongst other prizes.

Of course, we can’t forget the main part of the Intern Training Program – the course, workshops, assessment and our supportive clinical tutors who will help you get through it all.

But it’s also important to highlight some of the other lesser-known benefits of the College Intern Training Program. The College ITP isn’t just about ticking off boxes for general registration; it’s all about laying the groundwork for an amazing career that embraces the full scope of pharmacy practice. If you’re nearing completion of your pharmacy degree, why not check out the College ITP?
