NAPSA Updates: Advocating for Students, Celebrating Success, and Preparing for Congress 2025

27 November 2024

Sebastian Harper (President, NAPSA)

Since the last Rx Roundup, the work at NAPSA of delivering for our members has only picked up in pace.

Our campaign to tackle placement poverty with the inclusion of pharmacy and allied health students in the Commonwealth Prac Payment, has seen us meet federal politicians from all sides of the aisle. At each meeting, we are made acutely aware that no other allied health discipline has their own national student body advocating for them, the benefit that all pharmacy students receive by being a member of NAPSA.

Our team fighting for members has grown over the last few months, with the election of Chairs and their Committee members. It was a truly proud moment for this Board to have elected the first ever identifying Indigenous Chair and Indigenous Committee, in the interest of self-determination for our Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander members. By the next Roundup, we look forward to showcasing the great work they are setting out on.

Charity Cup formally concluded with NAPSA’s 19 branches raising over $20,000 in total for QENDO, a charity supporting people living with endometriosis and other conditions. Vampire Cup saw hundreds of lives saved in a massive blood and plasma drive across the country. In 2025, members and the wider industry can look forward to the next iteration of these initiatives - and let’s beat those numbers again!

Congress preparations are still in full swing, with accommodation tickets sold out. There’s still a chance for students to secure their spot, with non-accommodation tickets available - Book now. The NAPSA team can’t wait to welcome hundreds of delegates from Australia and New Zealand to Brisbane for the pharmacy student event of the year.
