Are you a pharmacy student looking for financial support to help achieve your goals? Two scholarship schemes designed to support Indigenous and rural students in Australia are now accepting applications!
The two scholarships, administered by Pharmacy Programs Administrator (PAA) and funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care, are aimed at reducing financial barriers and encouraging more students to pursue careers in pharmacy, particularly in underserved communities. In addition to scholarship-specific requirements, any student applying for a scholarship will need to be member of their university’s student Rural Health Club or the university’s affiliated Rural Health Club.
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Pharmacy Scholarship Scheme aims to address both the health needs of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, and the workforce needs of the pharmacy profession. It is open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students enrolled, or about to enrol, in a full-time undergraduate or graduate pharmacy degree at any Australian university.
At least three scholarships are awarded annually. Each scholarship is valued at $15,000 per student, per year, for a maximum of four years in total. These funds provide consistent financial assistance, enabling recipients to focus on their studies and future contributions to Indigenous health.
The Rural Pharmacy Scholarship Scheme supports students from rural and remote communities, encouraging them to pursue pharmacy studies and contribute to healthcare in rural and remote areas after graduation.
Each year, at least 30 scholarships are awarded, with recipients receiving $10,000 per year. Undergraduate students can receive funding for up to four years, with a maximum total scholarship value of $40,000, while graduate students can receive funding for up to two years, with a maximum total value of $20,000.
To be eligible, you will need to be an Australian citizen or permanent resident who have resided in a rural or remote area for a minimum of five years in a row, or eight years in total since the age of five. You will also need to be enrolled, or about to enrol, in a Bachelor of Pharmacy or Masters of Pharmacy degree full time.
Both scholarship schemes close 31 January 2025. For more information, visit the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Pharmacy Scholarship Scheme and Rural Pharmacy Scholarship Scheme pages.
