We often talk about the importance of life-work balance, but in reality it is more of a juggle. For pharmacy students the challenge is even greater, balancing study, part-time work and other commitments in life. It can feel like we’re stuck on a never ending, fast-moving conveyer belt, where once one hurdle is cleared, the next one appears.
To keep up with the many responsibilities, it's important to build a self-care routine that includes adequate rest, sleep, and proper nutrition. Setting clear goals and maintaining a sense of purpose can help you stay motivated, while engaging in activities outside of work and study can bring much-needed joy and balance.
Equally important is nurturing supportive relationships with people you trust, those you can openly share both the good and the challenging times with. As you progress through university, focus on building your self-care habits and support networks, including connections with your pharmacy colleagues. With these in place, you’ll be well equipped to thrive—not just survive.
If you ever need someone to talk to, the Pharmacists’ Support Service is available every day of the year. You can reach us by phone at 1300 244 910 from 8 AM to 11 PM AEDT. We ‘re here to provide a listening ear and support to all pharmacy students, interns and pharmacists across Australia—because we are pharmacists supporting pharmacists.
