NIP Vaccinations in Pharmacy

National Immunisation Program Vaccinations in Pharmacy (NIPVIP) Program

The National Immunisation Program Vaccinations in Pharmacy (NIPVIP) Program allows eligible patients to access National Immunisation Program (NIP) vaccines in a community pharmacy, with no out-of-pocket costs.

The NIP vaccines that can be administered by pharmacies are determined by state and territory legislation. Ensure you refer to relevant legislation to confirm your legal authority to administer.

Participating pharmacies can receive a service fee per vaccination for the administration of National Immunisation Program (NIP) vaccines in a pharmacy setting, for individuals aged 5 years and over, as well as for off-site vaccinations in residential aged care and disability homes. The NIP vaccines that can be administered by pharmacies are determined by state and territory legislation.

Pharmacies can register and claim payments in the PPA Portal. The following information is also available:

  • Purpose
  • Eligibility (Service provider and patient eligibility)
  • Program FAQ
  • Program rules and downloads.

Eligibility and payments

  • Where a patient does not meet the eligibility criteria or does not consent to their details being provided for claiming purposes, the pharmacist may offer the service at a patient’s cost and using privately acquired stock, provided they are authorised to administer the vaccine.
  • Where a pharmacy is administering a NIP vaccine to a patient less than 5 years of age at the time of vaccination, the pharmacy must not charge for the NIP vaccine itself. They may however choose to charge the patient a fee to administer the vaccine, provided they are authorised to administer the vaccine.
