Getting vaccinated

Getting vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself against COVID-19. COVID-19 vaccines are free for everyone in Australia who is recommended for a vaccine.

Why get vaccinated

Getting vaccinated is the most effective way to protect yourself against COVID-19 because vaccines reduce the likelihood of:

  • severe illness
  • long COVID
  • death.

Who can get vaccinated

The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) advises us on who should receive COVID-19 vaccines, and how often, based on the latest evidence.

When to get vaccinated

Most people in Australia have already received their primary course of vaccination (that is, their first vaccine).

If you are in a high-risk group and at greater risk of severe disease, you should get regular booster vaccine doses to stay protected. How often you need a booster dose depends on your age and health status.

Read about how often you should get your booster dose or check whether you are due for a booster dose.

Cost

In Australia, COVID-19 vaccinations are free. This includes those without a Medicare card.
